Figure from the ISRO EC 2025 paper. It is part of the question.
Figure description

Inverting op-amp. A 1 V source (positive terminal up, negative terminal grounded) feeds a 10 kohm resistor carrying current I1 (arrow to the right) into the inverting (-) input. The non-inverting (+) input is grounded. A 10 kohm feedback resistor (current I2, arrow to the right) runs from the inverting-input node, over the top, to a junction. From that junction a 100 ohm resistor goes to ground (current I3 with arrow pointing up). From the same junction a 1 kohm resistor continues to the right and connects to the op-amp output Vo.

  1. (A)

    I1 = 100 µA, I2 = 100 µA, I3 = 10 mA

  2. (B)

    I1 = 10 mA, I2 = 1 µA, I3 = 100 µA

  3. (C)

    I1 = 50 µA, I2 = 100 µA, I3 = 100 µA

  4. (D)

    I1 = 100 mA, I2 = 1 µA, I3 = 100 µA

Answer and solution

ANSWER

, , , option (a).

Official answer: ASource: ISRO's final answer key of 15 May 2026

  1. The op-amp is ideal and the feedback path returns to the inverting input, so the input being grounded makes the inverting input a virtual ground: .

  2. .

  3. An ideal op-amp draws no input current, so all of continues through the feedback resistor: .

  4. The voltage at the junction after the feedback resistor is .

  5. The resistor connects this junction to ground. The arrow of points up, from ground into the junction, so .

  6. Check: at the junction, leaves through the resistor toward the output, so . This is a finite output, so the ideal op-amp can supply it, and the result is consistent.

  7. So , , , which is option (a).

KEY IDEA

With negative feedback and the non-inverting input grounded, the inverting input is a virtual ground and draws no current, so the input current passes entirely through the feedback resistor. The voltage it drops fixes the junction voltage, and Ohm's law on the shunt resistor gives the third current.

WATCH OUT FOR

Assuming the current through the resistor equals (or that it is tiny), or forgetting that the junction sits at and not at . Only the inverting input is at virtual ground, not the junction after the feedback resistor.
