Which PSU and government notices use a GATE score

Based on the recruiters' own notices and careers pages. What it cannot tell you is at the end.

A GATE score counts in some recruitment notices and not in others. This post sets the latest PSU notices, BARC, DRDO, ISRO, UPSC ESE and the private companies on the Core jobs pages side by side. It names the notice year wherever a PSU appears, because the route belongs to the notice.

This post shows where a GATE score appears in recruitment notices, for ECE, EE, AEIE, CSE/IT, DS & AI and BT. It sets the latest notices of 19 PSUs, then BARC, DRDO, ISRO and UPSC ESE, then the private companies on the site's Core jobs pages. A recruitment notice sets its own route. The same PSU has used a GATE score in one notice and its own test in the next. So a PSU is named here with its notice year, and the route belongs to that notice. The PSU recruitment page lists the notices. Of the 19 PSUs, 11 select on a GATE score in their latest notice and 8 run their own test.

ECE: POWERGRID's 2027 notice, NPCIL's 2027 announcement and NTPC's 2027 notice name Electronics. EE: eight notices name Electrical: POWERGRID 2027, NPCIL 2027, NHPC 2026, GAIL 2027, NTPC 2027, NLC India 2026, NALCO 2025 and EIL 2026. NHPC's 2026 notice is a special drive for SC, ST, OBC (NCL) and PwBD candidates. AEIE: NPCIL's 2027 announcement, GAIL's 2027 advertisement and NTPC's 2027 notice name Instrumentation. CSE/IT: five notices name Computer Science: POWERGRID 2027, NPCIL 2027, NTPC 2027, DVC 2026 and RITES 2024. DVC's 2026 notice is a special drive for IT, Mining and Chemical posts, and RITES's latest notice on the page is from 2024. NTPC's 2027 notice and NLC India's 2026 notice are short advance notices, with a detailed advertisement to follow. POWERGRID's 2027 notice says its selection details come in a later notification. DS & AI and BT have no notice among these that selects on a GATE score and names their discipline. Coal India's 2027 announcement also selects on a GATE score, in the Mining Engineering paper of GATE 2027. Mining is not one of these six departments, and Coal India's detailed advertisement will be released in 2027. Each of these notices names the GATE year it accepts. Four name GATE 2027: POWERGRID's, GAIL's and NTPC's 2027 notices and Coal India's 2027 announcement. NPCIL's 2027 announcement names a valid GATE 2025, 2026 or 2027 score. The others name earlier years: NHPC 2026 (GATE 2024 or 2025), DVC 2026, NLC India 2026 and NALCO 2025 (GATE 2025), EIL 2026 (GATE 2026) and RITES 2024 (GATE 2024). The degrees a notice accepts for a post can reach past the post's discipline name. GAIL's 2027 Instrumentation post, which uses GATE paper IN, lists Electronics and Electrical & Electronics among the degrees that can apply. RITES's 2024 Information Technology post, which used the GATE Computer Science and Information Technology paper, listed Electronics, Electronics & Communication and Electronics & Instrumentation among the degrees that could apply. The "Who can apply, by PSU" table on the PSU recruitment page gives the degree names each notice prints. We matched each department to the discipline names in the notices ourselves; the notices name disciplines, not these departments.

A route belongs to a notice, not a company. AAI's 2025 notice used a GATE 2023, 2024 or 2025 score, with equal weight to each. Its 2026 notice for Manager posts used AAI's own computer based test. ONGC's 2024 notice used a GATE 2023 score. Its 2025 and 2026 notices use ONGC's own computer based test and an interview. Coal India changed once. Its 2025 notice used its own test only. Its 2026 notice and 2027 announcement both select on a GATE score (GATE 2025, then GATE 2027), with the detailed 2027 advertisement to follow in 2027. Seven PSUs have two or more notices on the page and used a GATE score in every one: POWERGRID (2025, 2026, 2027), NPCIL (2026, 2027), GAIL (2026, 2027), DVC (2025, 2026), NLC India (2024, 2026), NALCO (2024, 2025) and EIL (2024, 2026). DVC's two notices were special drives: in 2025 for backlog vacancies of reserved categories, in 2026 for IT, Mining and Chemical posts. NLC India's 2026 notice is a short advance notice, with a detailed advertisement to follow, and POWERGRID's 2027 notice gives its selection details in a later notification. Three PSUs have two notices on the page and used their own test in both: IOCL (2025, 2026), HPCL (2025, 2026) and Oil India (2025, 2026).

How the latest notices of four other recruiters use a GATE score

How the latest notices of four other recruiters use a GATE score
Recruiter and noticeIs a GATE score used?
BARC OCES/DGFS-2026Applicants who wanted to be considered on a GATE score needed a valid GATE-2024, GATE-2025 or GATE-2026 score in the same GATE paper or subject as the qualifying degree discipline. The highest was considered for screening. Those who opted only for GATE could not sit the online exam.
DRDO Scientist 'B' (Advt. No. 156, 2025)Shortlisting for interview is on a valid GATE score; the 2025 advertisement accepted 2023, 2024 or 2025 scores in the paper its table lists for each discipline. RAC's notice on GATE 2027 says a GATE score is valid for 3 years and that aspirants are encouraged to appear for GATE 2027.
ISRO Scientist/Engineer 'SC' 2026ISRO's 2026 advertisement short-lists candidates for interview on their performance in ISRO's own written test. The advertisement does not ask for a GATE score.
UPSC Engineering Services 2027Not asked for: There are three stages: a Preliminary objective test, a Main conventional test and a Personality Test/Interview. Marks from all three decide the final ranking. About 480 vacancies are expected, including 19 for PwBD.

Sources: BARC, Information Brochure for OCES/DGFS-2026 (BARC Training Schools), as on 11 October 2026; RAC (DRDO), Advertisement No. 156: Direct recruitment of Scientist 'B', as on 11 October 2026; ISRO, Advertisement ISRO:ICRB:03(EMC):2026 for Scientist/Engineer 'SC' (27.08.2026), as on 11 October 2026; UPSC, Engineering Services Examination 2027: Examination Notice No. 02/2027-ENGG (16.09.2026), as on 11 October 2026

BARC: the OCES/DGFS-2026 notice allowed screening by BARC's online test, by a GATE score, or by both. A candidate who opted only for GATE could not sit the online exam, and final selection rested on the interview. By department, the brochure lists ECE degree names for the Electronics post, EE degree names for both the Electrical and the Electronics post (a candidate chose one), AEIE degree names for the Instrumentation post and Computer Science degree names for the Computer Science post. Its list of degrees that are not eligible names Communication Engineering, Electronics & Computer Engineering, Information Technology, Data Science, AI and AIML, and it says a B.E. / B.Tech. / B. Sc. (Tech) in Biotechnology is not eligible. The BARC OCES/DGFS page lists the discipline-wise eligibility. DRDO: Scientist 'B' (Advertisement No. 156, 2025) shortlisted for interview on a valid GATE score, in the ratio 1:10. In the final merit, the GATE score carried a weightage of 80 and the interview 20, and a minimum interview mark applied for entry to the final list. By department, the Electronics & Communication post lists ECE and AEIE degree names, with a GATE score in paper EC. EE is listed for the Electrical post (paper EE), and the Electronics post's list also names Electrical degrees (paper EC). CSE/IT is listed for the Computer Science post (paper CS), whose accepted names include Information Technology. For DS & AI: not stated on the source pages. The Biomedical post (paper BM) did not list Biotechnology among its degree names. The 2025 advertisement accepted GATE 2023, 2024 or 2025 scores, and a notice from RAC (DRDO) on GATE 2027 says a GATE score is valid for 3 years and that aspirants are encouraged to appear for GATE 2027. The DRDO Scientist 'B' page has the details, with the category-wise interview minimums. ISRO: the 2026 Scientist/Engineer 'SC' advertisement short-lists candidates on ISRO's own written test, in the ratio 1:5, and does not ask for a GATE score. By department, it lists Electronics & Communication Engineering for the Electronics post. For EE, ISRO's FAQ lists degree names for that post that include "Electrical & Electronics", "Electronics & Power" and "Power Electronics", and not plain Electrical Engineering. For AEIE, the list has Applied Electronics, Electronics & Instrumentation, Instrumentation Technology, Instrumentation & Control and Avionics, but not "Applied Electronics & Instrumentation" as one name. Only qualifications in ISRO's drop-down list are eligible. For the Computer Science post, the FAQ lists Computer Science and Engineering with Artificial Intelligence and Data Science, with Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, and with Artificial Intelligence, as well as Information Technology. The advertisement is for Electronics, Mechanical and Computer Science posts, with no post named for Biotechnology. The ISRO page covers the posts and degrees. UPSC ESE: the 2027 Engineering Services Examination has three stages, a Preliminary objective test, a Main conventional test and a Personality Test/Interview, and does not ask for a GATE score. The notice asks for a degree in Engineering from a recognised university, names four categories (Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, and Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering) and allows one category per candidate. Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering is Category IV and Electrical Engineering Category III. It has no category named Applied Electronics & Instrumentation, Computer Science or IT, Data Science or AI, or Biotechnology. The UPSC ESE page lists the categories.

The site's ten Core jobs pages cover 40 private companies. As listed on 19 October 2026, none of those companies' student or careers pages mentions a GATE score. That statement covers these 40 companies only. It says nothing about private companies in general. What the pages describe instead is campus drives, the companies' own online tests and interviews, internships and graduate programmes, each as the company describes it. The pages and the departments they are listed for:

WHAT THIS CANNOT TELL YOU

These are the latest notices as the site's pages list them: the PSU page as updated on 20 October 2026, the BARC, DRDO, ISRO and UPSC ESE pages as on 11 October 2026, and the Core jobs pages as listed on 19 October 2026. Notices change from one cycle to the next. A route in one notice has sometimes changed in the next and sometimes stayed the same, as the tables above show. We matched departments to the notices' discipline names ourselves. This shows what the notices say, not what a later notice will say.

Eleven: POWERGRID (2027 notice, with its selection details in a later notification), NPCIL (2027 announcement), NHPC (2026 notice, a special drive for SC, ST, OBC (NCL) and PwBD candidates), GAIL (2027 advertisement), Coal India (2027 announcement), NTPC (2027 notice, an advance notice with a detailed advertisement to follow), DVC (2026 notice, a special drive for IT, Mining and Chemical posts), NLC India (2026 notice, an advance notice with a detailed advertisement to follow), NALCO (2025 notice), EIL (2026 notice) and RITES (2024 notice).
Which PSUs' latest notices run their own test?+
Eight: BHEL (2025), AAI (2026, Manager posts), BEL (2026, Deputy Engineer on fixed tenure), IOCL (2026), HPCL (2026), ONGC (2026), SAIL (2025) and Oil India (2026). Seven of them name an interview or a group discussion or task after the test. AAI's row names none.
Does ISRO ask for a GATE score?+
ISRO's 2026 Scientist/Engineer 'SC' advertisement short-lists candidates for interview on ISRO's own written test. It does not ask for a GATE score.
Can a PSU change its route from one notice to the next?+
Yes. AAI's 2025 notice used a GATE score, and its 2026 notice for Manager posts used AAI's own computer based test. ONGC moved from a GATE 2023 score (2024 notice) to its own test (2025 notice). Coal India moved from its own test (2025 notice) to a GATE 2025 score (2026 notice). Other PSUs kept one route across the notices on the page, such as POWERGRID (GATE score, 2025 to 2027) and IOCL (own test, 2025 and 2026).
