Figure from the ISRO EC 2025 paper. It is part of the question.
Figure description

Input voltage V_i applied between a top terminal (+) and a bottom terminal (-). A 1.25 MΩ resistor is in series in the top rail. After it, three parallel branches connect the top rail to the bottom rail: a 4 pF capacitor, a 10 mH inductor, and a 5 MΩ resistor.

  1. (A)

    25 Mrad/s, 250 Krad/s, 100

  2. (B)

    5 Mrad/s, 250 Krad/s, 20

  3. (C)

    5 Mrad/s, 25 Krad/s, 200

  4. (D)

    None of the above

Answer and solution

ANSWER

, , , which is option (b).

Official answer: BSource: ISRO's final answer key of 15 May 2026

  1. The capacitor, the inductor and the resistor are in parallel across the output. They are fed from through the series resistor, so the circuit is a parallel resonant circuit.

  2. Resonant frequency:

  3. The damping is set by the total resistance seen by the - pair. Looking back from those terminals, the ideal source is replaced by a short, so the series resistor appears in parallel with the resistor:

  4. Quality factor of a parallel RLC circuit:

  5. Bandwidth: which agrees with .

  6. Hence , and , which is option (b). Using only the resistor would wrongly give and .

KEY IDEA

In a parallel RLC circuit fed through a series resistor, the source resistance loads the tank: Q and bandwidth use the series resistor in parallel with the shunt resistor, while the resonant frequency depends only on L and C.

WATCH OUT FOR

Using only the 5 MΩ shunt resistor and ignoring the 1.25 MΩ series resistor gives Q = 100 and a bandwidth of 50 krad/s, which is not the loaded value.
