ISRO 2025 · ECQ.91 · 1 mark · MCQ

In this, you are given a combination of alphabets and/or numbers followed by four alternatives (a), (b), (c) and (d). Choose the alternative which closely resembles the mirror image of the given combination. Given combination: ANS43Q12. (1 mark)

ISRO EC 2025 question 91: The given string ANS43Q12 is printed in bold capitals.Tap to open full size
Figure from the ISRO EC 2025 paper. It is part of the question.
Figure description

The given string ANS43Q12 is printed in bold capitals. Four option strings follow, each printed as a laterally inverted (mirror-style) rendering: (a) the characters appear individually mirrored but in the original left-to-right order, starting with a mirrored A then a mirrored N; (b) the string starts with a mirrored 2 and ends with A, with every glyph mirrored (order 2,1,Q,3,4,S,N,A); (c) a string starting with a mirrored S-like glyph and ending with I/2-like characters, with mixed order and mirroring; (d) a string starting with I and ending with a mirrored S/2-like glyph, with the glyphs not all properly mirrored.

  1. (A)

Figure — string with each glyph mirrored but kept in the original left-to-right order (starts with mirrored A, N)

  2. (B)

    Figure — string reading from the left as mirrored 2, 1, Q, 3, 4, S, N, A (order reversed, every glyph mirrored)

  3. (C)

Figure — string starting with a mirrored S-like glyph and ending with I2-like characters, order and mirroring inconsistent

  4. (D)

Figure — string starting with I and ending in a mirrored S/2-like glyph, glyphs not consistently mirrored

Answer and solution

ANSWER

The mirror image is the string with its order reversed and each glyph flipped, which is option (b).

Official answer: BSource: ISRO's final answer key of 15 May 2026

  1. A mirror image, with the mirror placed to the right of the given string, reverses the left-to-right order of the characters and also flips each character left to right.

  2. The given order is A, N, S, 4, 3, Q, 1, 2. In the mirror it reads from the left: 2, 1, Q, 3, 4, S, N, A.

  3. Each glyph is also laterally inverted. A flipped 2 looks like an S, a flipped S looks like a 2, a flipped N looks like И, a flipped 3 looks like Ɛ, and a flipped 4 and a flipped Q face the other way. A and 1 look the same after flipping.

  4. So the required string reads from the left: flipped 2 (S-like), 1, flipped Q, flipped 3, flipped 4, flipped S (2-like), И, A.

  5. Option (b) matches this exactly: it starts with an S-like glyph, ends with A, and every glyph is flipped.

  6. Option (a) flips the glyphs but keeps the original order (it starts with A), so it is not a mirror image. Option (c) has the wrong order, and option (d) starts with I and has glyphs that are not properly flipped, so neither is a mirror image.

KEY IDEA

A mirror image does two things at once: it reverses the order of the characters and it flips every character left to right. Check the first and last characters of each option first, then check the glyph shapes.

WATCH OUT FOR

Flipping each character but leaving them in the original order, as option (a) does, or reversing the order without flipping the glyphs. A true mirror image needs both changes.
