Answer and solution

ANSWER

Neither conclusion I nor conclusion II follows, so the answer is (d).

Official answer: DSource: ISRO's final answer key of 15 May 2026

  1. Let = women teachers, = people who can play, = athletes. Statement 1: no member of can play, so . Statement 2: some members of are athletes, so .

  2. Combining the two: the athletes we know about are women teachers, and women teachers cannot play. So what follows is 'Some athletes cannot play'.

  3. Conclusion I (male athletes can play): the statements say nothing about male athletes or about what they can do. It does not follow.

  4. Conclusion II (some athletes can play): the only athletes the statements tell us about are women teachers, and they cannot play. Other athletes may exist, but nothing says whether they can play. It does not follow.

  5. Either-or applies only when the two conclusions are a complementary pair about the same subject and predicate, such as 'Some A are B' and 'No A is B'. Conclusion I is about male athletes and Conclusion II is about some athletes, so they are not such a pair. Option (c) is wrong.

  6. Neither conclusion follows, so the answer is (d).

KEY IDEA

A conclusion follows only if the statements force it. Statements about women teachers say nothing positive about other athletes, so claims that other athletes can play are not forced.

WATCH OUT FOR

Assuming that because women teacher athletes cannot play, the remaining athletes must be able to play, or wrongly applying the either-or rule to two conclusions that are not complementary.
