ANSWER
(A)
Official answer: ASource: Official answer key, GATE 2026 EE (IIT Guwahati)
Auxiliary (characteristic) equation for this constant-coefficient equation: , so .
The roots are complex, with and , so the general solution is
Apply : , so .
Differentiate using the product rule:
Apply : . Putting in gives , so .
So , which is option (A).
Quick check that rules out the others: every option already gives , so only tells them apart. It is for (A), for (B), for (C) and for (D). Only (A) meets .
KEY IDEA
For with complex roots , the solution is . Then fixes , and fixes . All four options share the same envelope, the same frequency and , so only the condition decides between them.
WATCH OUT FOR
Leaving out the term that the product rule gives to , and writing instead of . That gives , which is not an option. Another slip is dropping the sign of and writing , which gives , , and so the wrong option (B).
