THE IAE ENGINEER’S BRIEF
GATE 2027 Syllabus Changes: Which Papers Changed, and Which Did Not
Comparing the official GATE 2026 and GATE 2027 syllabus PDFs paper by paper, five of the seven GATE papers IAE Academy teaches changed for 2027 and two did not. Civil (CE) changed most: it gains an eighth section, Construction Materials and Management. Biotechnology (BT) loses one, Bioprocess Engineering and Process Biotechnology. Instrumentation (IN) changed in all ten of its sections, Electronics (EC) in six of eight, and Computer Science (CS) in three of ten. The Electrical (EE) and Data Science and AI (DA) syllabi have no listing change at all.
Each paper's official GATE 2026 and GATE 2027 syllabus PDFs were compared section by section by the same script, and a paper is reported as unchanged only where that comparison found nothing to adjudicate.
Facts checked 15 September 2026
| Paper | What the comparison found | Status |
|---|---|---|
| EC — Electronics and Communication | Changes in 6 of 8 sections: 10 newly listed, 2 not listed by name, 4 qualifier changes. | Full comparison published |
| EE — Electrical Engineering | No listing change. The one difference is a spelling correction: “Butterwoth” in 2026, “Butterworth” in 2027. | No page — nothing to report |
| IN — Instrumentation Engineering | Changes in 10 of 10 sections: 60 newly listed, 14 not listed by name, 5 moved between sections, 17 qualifier changes. | Full comparison published |
| CS — Computer Science and IT | Changes in 3 of 10 sections: 3 newly listed, 7 not listed by name, 11 qualifier changes. | Full comparison published |
| DA — Data Science and AI | No listing change. Both PDFs list the same items; the 2027 PDF only presents them under numbered sections. | No page — nothing to report |
| BT — Biotechnology | Changes in 7 of 7 sections: 21 newly listed, 9 not listed by name, 8 moved between sections, 5 qualifier changes. | Full comparison published |
| CE — Civil Engineering | Changes in 8 of 8 sections: 32 newly listed, 7 not listed by name, 4 moved between sections, 12 qualifier changes. | Full comparison published |
Source: Each row compares that paper's official GATE 2026 syllabus (organising institute IIT Guwahati) with its official GATE 2027 syllabus (IIT Madras), read 15 September 2026. The md5 of every PDF is recorded in docs/Syllabus/2026/README.md. A row saying “full comparison published” links to a curated comparison in which every entry quotes both PDFs and is checked by a script; a row saying “no listing change” means the comparison found nothing to adjudicate.
About this resource
IAE Academy compared the official GATE 2026 syllabus published by IIT Guwahati with the official GATE 2027 syllabus published by IIT Madras, for each of the seven GATE papers it teaches. This page is the index: one row per paper, what the comparison found, and a link to the full section-by-section detail where there is one.
Two papers are reported as unchanged, and that is a finding rather than an absence of work. The Electrical Engineering (EE) syllabus differs in exactly one place, and it is a spelling correction: the 2026 PDF reads “Butterwoth” and the 2027 PDF reads “Butterworth”. The Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (DA) syllabus lists the same items in both years; the 2027 PDF only presents them under numbered sections. Neither paper gets a comparison page, because there is nothing in either to report.
“Not listed by name” means the 2026 words do not appear in the 2027 PDF. It does not mean the topic is out of scope: an item worded differently in 2027 may still cover it, and a shorter syllabus line is not a promise that nothing under it can be asked. Every entry on every linked page quotes both PDFs, and a script checks that each quote appears in the right section of the right document and that each “not listed” term really is absent — so any row can be reproduced from the same two public documents.

- ✓The two papers that did not change, and the single difference in each
How to use this resource
Find your paper's row. If a full comparison is published, follow the link for the section-by-section detail; if the row says there is nothing to report, your syllabus is unchanged and there is nothing you need to do.
Read “not listed by name” literally, and check the full 2027 syllabus before treating any topic as gone.
For the complete wording of any paper's syllabus, open the official GATE 2027 syllabus in IAE Academy's Resource Centre.
Frequently asked questions
Did the GATE 2027 syllabus change?+
For five of the seven GATE papers IAE Academy teaches, yes. Civil (CE), Biotechnology (BT), Instrumentation (IN), Electronics (EC) and Computer Science (CS) all differ from their 2026 syllabus. Electrical (EE) and Data Science and AI (DA) have no listing change at all.
Which GATE 2027 paper changed the most?+
Civil Engineering (CE). It is the only paper to gain a section: Construction Materials and Management, which the 2026 PDF carried as a block inside Structural Engineering, is Section 8 in 2027. Instrumentation (IN) has the most individual changes — every one of its ten sections lists something 2026 did not.
Did the GATE EE 2027 syllabus change?+
No. The official 2026 and 2027 Electrical Engineering syllabus PDFs list the same items, and the only difference between the two documents is a spelling correction: “Butterwoth” in 2026 is “Butterworth” in 2027. There is no comparison page for EE because there is nothing to report.
Did the GATE DA 2027 syllabus change?+
No. The official 2026 and 2027 Data Science and Artificial Intelligence syllabus PDFs list the same items. The 2027 PDF presents them under numbered sections where the 2026 PDF did not, but no item is added, removed or reworded.
Where can I download the official GATE 2027 syllabus?+
The official GATE 2027 syllabus for every paper is free to download from IAE Academy at /resources/gate-2027-syllabus. This page compares those PDFs with their 2026 editions; it does not replace them.
