Answer and solution

ANSWER

The amount of sugar solution to be added is litres, which is option (b).

Official answer: BSource: ISRO's final answer key of 15 May 2026

  1. Split the litres in the ratio : sugar solution litres and salt solution litres.

  2. Only sugar solution is added, so the salt solution stays at litres.

  3. Let litres of sugar solution be added. The new ratio must be .

  4. So , which gives litres.

  5. Check: sugar litres and salt litres, so the ratio is .

  6. The other options fail. Adding litres gives . Adding litres gives . Adding litres gives . None of these equals .

KEY IDEA

When only one component is added, the other component's quantity stays fixed. Use it as the anchor and set up the new ratio against it.

WATCH OUT FOR

Treating the new total as litres and splitting it (giving litres of sugar and so adding ), or forgetting that the salt solution stays at litres while only the sugar solution changes.
