Answer and solution
ANSWER
Official answer: -2Source: Official answer key, GATE 2024 IN (IISc Bengaluru)
The determinant of a square matrix equals the product of its eigenvalues (counted with multiplicity). A matrix has exactly three eigenvalues, and here they are , and , so
No eigenvalue is zero, so and is invertible.
If with , then , so . The eigenvalues of are therefore the reciprocals: .
Hence The same result follows from .
Here is determinant notation (not absolute value), so the value is . It is already an integer, so rounding changes nothing.
KEY IDEA
is the product of the eigenvalues, and the eigenvalues of are their reciprocals. So .

Reading as an absolute value and answering (it is the determinant, and it is negative here). Another slip is to give and round it to or , forgetting that the question asks for the determinant of the inverse.
