ISRO EC 2025 question 47: Circuit: source (+ at top) drives node v1.Tap to open full size
Figure from the ISRO EC 2025 paper. It is part of the question.
Figure description

Circuit: source (+ at top) drives node v1. R1 connects v1 to node v2. R3 is a shunt resistor from v2 to the bottom rail. R2 connects v2 to node v3. R4 is a shunt resistor from v3 to the bottom rail. The output vo is across R4 (+ at top, at v3). Mesh currents i1 (left mesh) and i2 (right mesh) are shown by small loop arrows, taken as flowing left to right through R1 and R2. Each option is a signal flow graph with nodes v1, i1, v2, i2, v3 and a unity branch to the output. (a) forward 1, R3, R2, R4, 1; feedback -1/R1, -R3, -1/R2. (b) forward 1/R1, R3, 1/R2, R4, 1; feedback -1/R1, -R3, -1/R2. (c) forward 1, R3, R2, R4, 1; feedback -1/R1, -1/R3, -1/R2. (d) forward 1/R1, R3, 1/R2, R4, 1; feedback -1/R1, -1/R3, -R2.

  1. (A)

    Forward gains 1, R3, R2, R4, 1; feedback gains -1/R1, -R3, -1/R2

  2. (B)

    Forward gains 1/R1, R3, 1/R2, R4, 1; feedback gains -1/R1, -R3, -1/R2

  3. (C)

    Forward gains 1, R3, R2, R4, 1; feedback gains -1/R1, -1/R3, -1/R2

  4. (D)

    Forward gains 1/R1, R3, 1/R2, R4, 1; feedback gains -1/R1, -1/R3, -R2

Answer and solution

ANSWER

The correct signal flow graph is option (B).

Official answer: BSource: ISRO's final answer key of 15 May 2026

  1. Take both mesh currents and as flowing left to right through and . Write one equation per variable. Each current is written in terms of voltages and each voltage in terms of currents. The nodes are in that order.

  2. The current through is , so by Ohm's law . This gives a branch of gain and a branch of gain .

  3. The voltage is across , which carries . So . This gives a branch of gain and a branch of gain .

  4. The current through is , so . This gives a branch of gain and a branch of gain .

  5. The voltage is across , which carries . So , a branch of gain . The output is , which adds a unity branch to the output node.

  6. The forward path therefore has gains . The feedback branches are (from to ), (from to ) and (from to ). This is option (b).

  7. Option (a) has gain at the input and in place of . Option (c) has those same two errors and also in place of . Option (d) has the right forward path, but its feedback gains and are inverted.

KEY IDEA

Build the signal flow graph in alternating form. Each current is a conductance times a voltage difference, so its branches have gain . Each node voltage is a resistance times a current, so its branches have gain .

WATCH OUT FOR

Using where belongs and the reverse. A current equation takes and . A voltage equation takes and . Another slip is giving the input branch gain 1 when it should be .
