Loop gain with unity feedback:
Put the compensator in time-constant form so every corner can be read directly: so
Corner frequencies, in increasing order: pole at (compensator), pole at from , zero at (compensator), pole at .
Starting slope: there is one pole at the origin (type 1), so the asymptote starts at .
Asymptotic Bode rule: each simple real pole adds and each simple real zero adds beyond its corner frequency.
Slope sequence: for ; on ; on ; on ; for (all in ).
lies between and , where the slope is . The constant gain only shifts the whole plot up or down, so it has no effect on the slope.
KEY IDEA
An asymptotic Bode slope at a given frequency depends only on how many poles and zeros have corner frequencies below it: start from for poles at the origin, then add for each pole corner and for each zero corner already passed. Here, by , the integrator and the poles at and have all acted, and the zero at has not yet, so .
WATCH OUT FOR
Reading the compensator corners wrongly: in the pole is at and the zero is at (a lag network puts its pole first), not the other way round. Swapping them would place the zero below and give . Another slip is taking the corner to be instead of . That does not change this answer, because both values are below 3, but it gives wrong slopes elsewhere. Also, the constant has no effect on slope.
