CCMT 2026: Opening and Closing GATE Scores
CCMT is the counselling through which NITs, IIEST Shibpur and some IIITs and CFTIs offer M.Tech, M.Arch and M.Plan seats on GATE scores. In 2026, among the 686 programme groups that accepted at least one of the seven papers IAE teaches, 639 had an OPEN closing score after the three regular rounds, from 758 down to 350. Each paper's page lists every group.

A closing score here is the closing score after the regular rounds, OPEN category: the lowest of the report's Min GATE Scores for Rounds 1, 2 and 3. CCMT does not say what each round's figures cover; they appear to cover only the seats given in that round. 91 of the groups that accept the seven papers have no Round 2 or Round 3 figures, so in every category where they have figures, the closing score is Round 1's. In 428 of the 639 with an OPEN closing score, the Special Rounds or the National Spot Round, which are left out, allotted an OPEN seat below it. A group that accepts several papers is counted under each; 686 programme groups accept at least one of the seven papers, 639 of them with an OPEN closing score. Each row links to that paper's page.
| Stage | What the brochure says |
|---|---|
| Who takes part | “CCMT 2026 is a common platform for candidates to apply for M. Tech. / M. Arch. / M. Plan. programmes, based on their GATE score of years 2024, 2025 and 2026, in NITs, IIEST Shibpur, and some IIITs and CFTIs” (page 5). |
| Eligibility | A candidate “Must have a valid GATE score of the year 2024 / 2025 / 2026”, and in the qualifying degree “should have passed and secured at least 6.5 CGPA (on a 10- point scale) or 60% for GEN/GEN-EWS/OBC, whereas 6.0 CGPA (on a 10-point scale) or 55% in case of SC/ST/PwD candidates” (page 9). |
| Degree and paper | “For each programme, eligibility is defined based on certain combinations of degree- disciplines and GATE paper” (page 9). |
| Results awaited | “In case, the result of qualifying degree is awaited, provisional admission is permitted to a candidate subject to meeting above minimum qualifying degree requirements latest by September 30, 2026. In these cases, all exams should have been completed by August 15, 2026. A certificate from the Head of the current institute (format given on the CCMT website) to that effect should be submitted during document verification” (page 9). CCMT 2027 will set its own dates. |
| Special eligibility | “For certain programmes in few participating Institutes, special eligibility criteria are applicable (given on CCMT website)” (page 9); candidates who “fail to satisfy special eligibility of the allotted seat at any stage then they may be left without any allotted seat” (page 10). |
| Merit | “Merit for seat allotment will be prepared based on the GATE score of the year filled by the candidate.” For the same GATE score: “In the unlikely event of their year of GATE score being the same, preference will be given based on the All India Rank (AIR) divided by total appearance in that GATE paper. Candidate with lower value will be given preference”; after that, date of birth (“Elder candidate will be given preference”), then “Random number generation” (page 10). |
| Rounds | Three regular rounds of seat allotment; then “two Special Rounds (SR), and a National Spot Round (NSR) will also be conducted to fill-up the vacant seats, if any” (page 8). |
| Groups | “some institutes have bifurcated the seats of some programmes in groups G1, G2, G3, etc. based on the required intake of degree disciplines” (page 34); in the Special Rounds, unfilled seats in G2, G3 and higher groups “will be converted into the lower numbered group in the same category” (page 12). |

About this resource
CCMT, the Centralized Counselling for M.Tech./M.Arch./M.Plan. Admissions, is how NITs, IIEST Shibpur and some IIITs and CFTIs fill these seats on GATE scores; CCMT 2026 was coordinated by NIT Agartala. These are GATE scores, the figure on your scorecard, not marks or ranks. It publishes, for each round, programme group and category in which it allotted seats, the maximum and minimum GATE score allotted. This guide uses CCMT's 2026 score report and its list of which GATE papers each programme group accepts, so each paper IAE teaches has its own list.
Read the scores for what they are. CCMT does not say what each round's figures cover; they appear to cover only the seats given in that round, not everyone holding a seat. So this guide gives each group's closing score after the three regular rounds, the lowest of its Min GATE Scores for Rounds 1, 2 and 3, and Round 1's Max as the opening score, for OPEN only. The report's note on the later rounds reads: “For Special Round-I, Round-II & National Spot Round : Opening and closing GATE score of those candidates who have been alloted a new seat or the previously allotted seat has been upgraded in category or Group” (the note does not say whether its “Round-II” is the second Special Round). This guide leaves out the two Special Rounds and the National Spot Round, which filled seats left vacant and often allotted them at lower scores.
Each programme accepts a GATE paper only from students with certain degrees, and one programme can appear as G1 and G2 with different scores. Before relying on a row, find the group in CCMT's mapping and check its Qualifying Degree column. A group that accepts several GATE papers is counted under each, because candidates of all of them compete for its seats.
A closing score is the lowest score allotted a seat in the three regular rounds of 2026. The Special Rounds and the National Spot Round, left out here, allotted OPEN seats below it in 428 of the 639 groups, and allotment always depended on each candidate's choices, category and the seats, so a closing score was never a guarantee, and none of these figures is a forecast for CCMT 2027.
What's included
- ✓How CCMT 2026 selected and allotted, in its brochure's words: eligibility, degree and paper, results awaited, special eligibility, merit, rounds and groups
- ✓For each paper IAE teaches, how many programme groups accepted it and the highest and lowest OPEN closing score
- ✓A linked page per paper with every programme group's opening score and closing scores by category
- ✓What CCMT's round-by-round figures are, and why the special rounds are left out
How to use this resource
Find your paper in the first table and open its page.
On that page, find your category's closing column, then check in CCMT's “View Mapping of [Institute, Department, PG Program] VS [GATE Paper & Qualifying Degree]” page, linked from ccmt.admissions.nic.in that the group takes your qualifying degree with your paper.
Read the brochure rows before you plan your choices: merit uses the GATE score of the year you enter, groups decide which seats you compete for, and special eligibility is checked only after a seat is allotted.
Frequently asked questions
What is CCMT?+
The Centralized Counselling for M.Tech./M.Arch./M.Plan. Admissions. Its 2026 brochure calls it “a common platform for candidates to apply for M. Tech. / M. Arch. / M. Plan. programmes, based on their GATE score of years 2024, 2025 and 2026, in NITs, IIEST Shibpur, and some IIITs and CFTIs”.
What is a CCMT closing score?+
CCMT's report gives, for each round, programme group and category in which seats were allotted, the maximum and minimum GATE score allotted. This guide's closing score is the lowest of those minimums across the three regular rounds, the lowest score at which the report shows a regular-round allotment in that category. It is not a guarantee: allotment also depends on a candidate's choices, category and the seats, and the Special Rounds and the National Spot Round, left out here, often allotted seats at lower scores.
Why does no OPEN closing score go below 350?+
No OPEN closing score in CCMT's 2026 report is below 350, and in the GATE score formula, 350 is the score of the General qualifying mark (the GATE 2027 brochure prints the formula, page 28; CCMT 2026 used 2024 to 2026 scores). The reserved categories qualify at lower marks, and their closing scores in the report do go below 350. Each paper's page gives every group's closing score by category.
Does this guide cover IITs?+
No. CCMT's 2026 report lists no IIT, so neither does this guide. IISc's own published cut-offs are in IAE Academy's IISc guide.
